Balochistan Assembly Passes Child Protection Bill

ISLAMABAD: The Provincial Assembly of Balochistan passed the Balochistan Child Protection Bill, 2015 and discussed measures taken by security agencies after terrorist attack on the Police Training Center, Quetta during third sitting of its 35th session on Monday.

The child protection bill was tabled by the Advisor to CM on Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Sardar Raza Muhammad Barrech. The bill aimed to provide for the protection of children from violence, harm, injury, abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment and exploitation in Balochistan province.

Earlier, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Welfare, Women Development, Zakat Usher, Hajj Auqaf and Minority Youth Affair, Shama Ishaq of National Party (NP) presented the committee report on same bill.

In addition, the Chairperson, Standing Committee on Education, Quality Education, President Program CDWA Science and IT Departments, Samina Khan presented the report regarding irregularities during National Testing Service (NTS) tests of the provincial education department.

Sponsored by the Advisor to CM on Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Sardar Raza Muhammad Barrech, the House referred an amendment to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Assembly regarding insertion of new chapter of “Zero Hour” to the relevant standing committee.

The House also held discussion on an Adjournment Motion sponsored by the Opposition Leader, Maulan Abdul Wasey. The motion was regarding measures taken by security agencies after terrorist attack on the Police Training Center, Quetta on October 24, 2016 as well as responsibility of security agencies and safety measures taken after receiving the threat call. Fifteen lawmakers expressed their views on motion consuming three hours and 14 minutes of the proceedings.

The House once again deferred Question Hour due to the absence of concern minister. The lawmakers spoke on nine Points of Order consuming 23 minutes of the proceedings. The chair adjourned the House to meet again on November 10, 2016 (Thursday).
