Balochistan budget presented amid opposition boycott

ISLAMABAD: The Balochistan Assembly witnessed presentation of the Provincial Budget with total outlay of Rs. 243 billion for the upcoming financial year, amid boycott of the opposition parties on Wednesday.

Balochistan’s Finance Advisor Khalid Langau presented province’s annual budget for the fiscal year 2015-16.

Presenting the budget in Balochistan Assembly, Mr Langau said that special focus has been given to education and health. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is giving special attention to Balochistan’s development, adding that the Pak-China Economic Corridor project will benefit the people of Balochistan.

The sitting started 23 minutes behind the schedule with 43 members (66% of the total membership-65) present at the start and 44 (68%) at the time of adjournment.

The Advisor to the Chief Minister on Finance took 66 minutes (92% of the sitting time) to present the budget. Chief Minister Abdul Malik Baloch attended the entire sitting while the Leader of the Opposition Moulana Abdul Wasey along with other opposition members boycotted the sitting. The parliamentary leaders of MWM, PML-N, PML and PkMAP were present.

The opposition lawmakers did not attend the sitting for having reservations over allocation of development funds and nomination of Chairman, Public Accounts Committee, without taking them into confidence. The next sitting will be held on Saturday.
