ISLAMABAD: The lawmakers in the Balochistan Assembly have demanded the government to check load-shedding in the province and ensure accurate billing of electricity charges.

The House unanimously adopted a resolution in this regard during 3rd sitting of its 31st session and demanded to end load-shedding in districts Suhbat Pur and Dera Allah Yar.

The resolution was jointly sponsored by Provincial Minister Mir Muhammad Khan Lahri, Advisor to Chief Minister Izhar Khan Khosa, Nawab Muhammad Khan Shahwani, Haji Ghulam Dastagir Badeni, Mir Sarfraz Chakar Domki, Mir Akbar Askani and Rahat Jamali.

The resolution highlighted various issues concerning electricity shortage and hours long load shedding in Suhbat Pur and Dera Allah Yar. It reads that duration of load-shading in districts Suhbat Pur and Dera Allah Yar is 18 to 20 hours and whenever electricity is available in these areas, its power voltage is not stable. Meter readers are not performing their duties accordingly and the consumers have to pay the estimated amount of charges in electricity bills.

The resolution urged the provincial government to contact the federal government and put the demand for ending load-shedding and ensure accurate billing for electricity consumers of Suhbat Pur and Dera Allah Yar. The lawmakers belonging to JUI-F, PML-N, PkMAP, and ANP also staged a token walkout from the House on the same issue.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Minister for Health introduced the Prohibition of Sheesha Smoking Bill, 2016 which was referred to the relevant committee for further deliberations.

The two hours and fifteen minutes long sitting was chaired by the Speaker Raheela Hameed Durrani. The sitting started 65 minutes behind its schedule with 20 (31%) lawmakers present at start and 24(36%) at the time of adjournment. The Chief Minister Sanaullah Khan Zahri and the Opposition Leader Moulana Abdul Wasey remain absent during the sitting. The Parliamentary Leaders of ANP and PML attended the sitting while one minority member was present.
