Balochistan PA: Low attendance marks 5th sitting of ongoing 36th session

ISLAMABAD: Low interest of lawmakers was witnessed during the fifth sitting of ongoing 36th session of Balochistan Assembly and the sitting had to be adjourned due to lack of quorum.

The quorum was pointed out by ANP Parliamentary Leader Zmrak Khan Achakzai which led to early adjournment of sitting. Eighteen lawmakers (26%) were observed to be present at the outset while 15 (22%) at the adjournment of the sitting.

The key members of the House including Chief Minister and Opposition Leader were absent. The Parliamentary Leaders of ANP and PML attended the sitting while leaders of PkMAP, MWM, JUI-F, BNP and NP were absent. One minority lawmaker was present while twelve members applied for leave.

The fifth sitting started 30 minutes behind the scheduled time of 1600 hours.  Speaker Raheela Hamid Durrani chaired the sitting for 76 minutes while rest of the proceedings for 59 minutes was chaired by a Member of Panel of Chairpersons.

The House did not observe Question Hour due to absence of the mover. In addition, a join resolution appearing on the agenda remained unaddressed due to lack of quorum.

Moreover, the House referred two Privilege Motions (PM) sponsored by PkMAP lawmakers to the House Committee on Privileges. Six lawmakers spoke on these motions consuming 41 minutes of the proceedings. The lawmakers spoke on seven Points of Order consuming 31 minutes of the proceedings. The sixth and last siting of the ongoing session will be held on January 19, 2017 (Thursday).
