MQM, PML-F legislators table most questions, CANs in Sindh Assembly

mqm pmlfISLAMABAD: The lawmakers of the Muttehida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) remained top performers in putting questions and sponsoring Calling Attention Notices during the first parliamentary year of the Sindh Assembly.

An analysis of question hour of the Sindh Assembly shows the lawmakers asked a total of 237 questions, of which, 179 (76%) were taken up while 58 (24%) were not taken up while the lawmakers also asked 1,105 supplementary questions. A total of 15 members took part in asking questions, of which, 141 (59%) were raised by five female members including Bilquees Mukhtar, Heer Soho, Naheed Begum, Naila Munir and Sumeta Afzal Syed. MQM lawmaker Heer Soho topped the list in putting questions as she asked 82 (35%) questions to different ministries followed by PML-F’s Nusrat Bano Sher Abbasi with 59 questions (25%) and MQM’s Naheed Begum with 26 questions (11%).

The lawmakers tabled a total of 65 CANs, of which, 47 were taken up while 18 were not taken up. Most of CANs were related to the Home Department (18) followed by Local Government (17) and Education (5). The MQM lawmakers sponsored most CANs (45) followed by PTI and PML-F members with 10 CANs each.

An analysis of the performance of lawmakers in sponsoring CANs shows that MQM lawmaker Kamran Akhtar stood on the top with seven CANs, of which, five were related to the law and order situation and two to the Local Government Elections. PTI lawmaker Seema Zia brought five CANs followed by PML-F’s Nusrat Bano Sher Abbasi and MQM’s Naila Munir with four CANs each.
