NA condemns remarks against Parliament, demands to summon PTI, AML leaders

The National Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution slamming the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) for using abusive language against Parliament.

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution slamming the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) for using abusive language against Parliament.

The resolution was moved by the Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman which was unanimously adopted by the House.

As per text of the resolution, it has been said that remarks of Imran Khan and Sheikh Rasheed were attempt to target the sanctity of Parliament having representation of 200 million people.

It is strong belief of members of this House that stability and development of country is affiliated with democracy as per vision of founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

It further said that Parliament represents people and there is no room for any other system in country.

It is to mention that AML leader Sheikh Rashid and PTI Chairman Imran Khan repeatedly cursed the parliament during a public rally the rally in Lahore a day before.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Asif said that no one has right to abuse Parliament as politicians have no existence without this institution. He said those PTI lawmakers tendering resignation from the National Assembly in past requested the Speaker not to proceed them further and they got all salaries and other benefits.

Mr. Asif said that all limits were crossed yesterday and this House should move a joint privilege motion against those abusing parliament.  He suggested that Parliamentary Body should summon them and the head of the Committee should use power to make them answerable on such words.

“If they do not appear before the House, they should be arrested and to be presented before Parliamentary Body as it’s head has power to summon them in such a way,” he maintained.

Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah also condemned words used for parliament in the public meeting and said that words used against the parliament are painful for me, democratic people and the entire nation.

He said that PPPP leadership had rendered unmatched sacrifices for the democracy and supremacy of the parliament.

Aijaz Hussain Jhakrani (PPPP) criticized Sheikh Rasheed and said that his wordings has no importance before him but it is unfortunate what has been said by Imran Khan because his party has over 30 members in the House.

He said those abusing Parliament should face privilege motion and to be made answerable before Parliament.

Sheikh Salahuddin (MQM) said that Sheikh Rasheed and Imran Khan has not only insulted Parliament but also the mandate of 200 million people. He said that those wanting to resign from the parliament should come here like Javed Hashmi and to tender his resignation in a democratic way.

Ghulam Ahmed Bilour (ANP) said that Parliament is considered as weak institution and is being abused.  Javed Latif (PML-N) said that abusing parliament means abusing state and those doing so are called `traitor’.

Muhammad Ijaz ul Haq (PML-Z) said that Parliament is mother of all institutions and every one should endeavor to increase its respect rather than abusing it. Khalid George (PML-N) demanded legislation to deal with those abusing Parliament.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Syed Essa Nori (BNP), Shahida Akhter Ali (JUI-F) and Sajid Ahmed (MQM).
