spbISLAMABAD: The Sindh Ministry of Sports says that there is no fund at the provincial level to provide assistance to the needy sportsmen and a summary will be sent to the Chief Minister in this regard.

Responding to a question of PML-F MPA Nusrat Bano Sher Abbassi during the second sitting of 14th session of the Sindh Assembly, the Ministry said the summary has been floated for creation of a revolving fund for grant of financial assistance to deserving sportsmen and their families.

The written answer, was submitted on behalf of Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah Jilani looking after its affairs, says the Sports Department used to forward cases of deserving sportsmen and their families, deceased sportsmen to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) before the 18th Constitutional Amendment, and they were given stipend. “After the 18th Amendment, the PBS discontinued the practice and a summary is being prepared to continue such assistance,” it added.

To another question by MQM lawmaker Dr Arshad Abdullah Vohra, the Minister for STEVTA said 209 technical/vocational institutes are functioning in Sindh and their basic function is to impart technical and vocational training to youth (boys & girls) for improving their employability on one hand and provide skilled workforce to industry on the other. He said these courses and training programs are developed in accordance with needs of local labor market/industry and the anticipated future requirements.
