Punjab PA passes seven bills after committees’ recommendations

ISLAMABAD: The Provincial Assembly of Punjab passed seven government bills as recommended by the relevant standing committees to whom they were referred for deliberations.

The House considered recommendations of standing committees in five amendment and two new legislative proposals which made their way to the final stage of legislation during its 25th session.

The Standing Committees on Local Government and Community Development;  Education; Laws; Housing; Urban Development and Public Health Engineering; and Livestock and Dairy Development presented their reports on seven treasury bills. Their recommendations were incorporated and later bills were passed.

The bills passed by the House included the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2016; the Punjab Local Government (Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2016; the Forman Christian College Lahore (Amendment) Bill, 2016; the Punjab Criminal Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions and Powers) (Amendment) Bill, 2016; the Parks and Horticulture Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2016; the Punjab Halal Development Agency Bill, 2016 and the Punjab Animals Feed Stuff and Compound Feed Bill, 2016.

Two of the passed bills were related to the subject of local government while one each was on the subject of education, judiciary, governance, food and livestock. The central role of standing committees’ is to assist the House in legislative as well as other parliamentary interventions so that it may perform its role with ease.
