ISLAMABAD: Minister for Irrigation Nawabzada Jangayz Marri says Rs one billion have been earmarked for construction of dams and water reservoirs in Balochistan and get maximum benefits from rainwater which is wasted every year.

Responding to a question of JUI-F MPA Haji Gul Muhammad Dummer during the 3rd sitting of 14th session of the Balochistan Assembly, the minister said thought funds have been allocated under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2013-14; however, there is no mention of areas or districts for building new dams/water reservoirs.

The minister said the federal government has made allocations for five ongoing projects under the PSDP 2013-14 including Shadi Core Dam, Toyoar Batozai Dam, Bolan Dam, Water Dispersal Project in Kichi and construction of 100 small reservoirs. He said 65% work of Shadi Core Dam and of 33% of Toyoar Batozai Dam has been completed. Jangayz said 46 small water reservoirs have been constructed which would lead to cultivation on 35,000 acres land in the province.
