Sindh Assembly pays homage to former politicians

ISLAMABAD:  The Provincial Assembly of Sindh on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution to pay tribute to the political leaders G.M Syed and Fazil Rahu for their services.

Ghulam Muhammad Shah Syed, founder of Sindhi Awami Mahaz, contributed for modern Sindhi nationalism and Fazil Rahu was one of the most famous peasant leaders in Sindh political history, who was assassinated in January, 1987.   The supplementary resolution was tabled by PML-N lawmaker Ismail Rahu. However, no further discussion was made on this resolution on floor of the House.

Meanwhile, the House referred the Societies Registration (Sindh Amendment) Bill, 2015 to relevant standing committee for further deliberation. The bill was introduced by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro.

The Deputy Speaker Syeda Shehla Raza, who was chairing the proceedings in the absence of Speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, rejected an Adjournment Motion sponsored by PML-F female lawmakers Nusrat Bano Seher Abbasi after being opposed by the government. The motion was regarding dilapidated condition of Civil Hospital, Shikarpur. Three lawmakers spoke on it consuming 13 minutes of the sitting time.

The House also took up two out of five Call Attention Notices on various issues of public importance. All five Starred Questions, appearing on the agenda were taken up and responded to by the relevant ministers. In addition, the lawmakers also asked 22 Supplementary Questions.

The lawmakers spoke on three Points of Order consuming 12 minutes of the proceedings while MQM lawmaker Deewan Chand Chawla protested for one minute against the attitude of the Chair for not allowing him to speak on a Point of Order.

The Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Opposition Leader Khwaja Izharul Hassan attended the proceedings for 48 minutes and 40 minutes respectively. The Deputy Speaker adjourned the House to meet again on January 20, 2017 (Friday) at 1000 hours.
