Sindh Govt. to set up new vocational centers: PA told

ISLAMABAD: The provincial government of Sindh is planning to set up nine new vocational centers within the province during ongoing financial year 2015-16.

This was told by the Chairman of Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) in his written response to a starred question raised by PTI female lawmaker Seema Zia during the 22nd sitting of 23rd session.

The department told the House that prime objective to establish these Centers is to provide the technical and skill based training to youth of the province that will enable them to explore better employment opportunity. For the purpose, the House was told that department has already submitted the proposal for setting up nine new Vocational Training Centers to the Planning and Development department following directions of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

According to the reply of STEVTA, the proposal of establishing new Vocational Centers is for five district of Sindh including districts Larkana, Khairpur, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Noushahro Feroze and four Union Councils including UCs Roshanabbad, Atta Muhamamd Pali, Peerani Jo Par and Imamabad. The minimum age for enrolment in the Centre will be 15 year while minimum educational qualification for admission is fixed as middle to intermediate.

Due to delay in transfer of funds to STEVTA by provincial finance department, it was told that more than 500 posts are lying vacant in existing Training and Vocational Centers which would be immediately filled as per recruitment rules after the transfer of funds to the department. Furthermore, the department also ensured to complete construction work of two separate Mono-technic institutes for boys and girls at Surjani Town by the end of June, 2017. In written reply to another question raised by Khairunisa Mughal regarding the deplorable conditions of various training centers, the department told that repair and renovation work of various poly-technical institutes will be completed after the release of funds.
