ISLAMABAD: The Provincial Assembly of Sindh passed a resolution on Friday during 18th sitting of its ongoing 23rd session condemning forced shutdown of Bol television even before its launch. The resolution was tabled by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and it consumed seven minutes of the sitting time.

The resolution strongly criticized the PEMRA and Minister of Information blaming them to be responsible for keeping the transmission of Bol news channel off the cable last year. The House also expressed great concern over suspension of license and of airing of the transmission of Bol TV by concerned authorities. Lawmakers demanded immediate security clearance to the owner of Bol media group as well as restoration of its transmission. They also demanded the federal government to hold investigation and take stern actions against persons involved in this act that has not only caused loss of billions of rupees to the owner of the channel but rendered unemployment in media industry.

Meanwhile, The House took up four out of five Calling Attention Notices appearing on the agenda. The notices were regarding encroachments by land mafia in district Korangi, embezzlement of 660 million rupees in Shah Abdul Latif University, delay in installment of bio-metric system in Sindh Secretariat, and purchase of the Helicopter by provincial government. A CAN regarding non-releasement of funds for Government Primary Schools in District Shikarpur was not taken up by the House due to lack of time. In addition two government bills on list of business – the Karachi Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship Bill, 2015 and the Sindh Employees’ Social Security Bill, 2016 – were also not taken up during today’s sitting.

Furthermore, the House rejected a Privilege Motion (PM) submitted by Muhammad Hussain Khan of MQM member regarding cancelation of approved development scheme for Karachi. The motion consumed 18 minutes of the proceeding.
