Sindh PA takes up 62% questions during 22nd session

ISLAMABAD: The Sindh Assembly took up 62 per cent starred questions on floor of the House during its 22nd session raised by 13 lawmakers and all of them were completely answered by the relevant departments or ministries.

A total of 37 starred questions appeared on agenda and the House took up 23 questions which were addressed to six Ministries including Auqaf, Food, Health, Information, Social Welfare, Excise and Taxation.

The lawmakers asked maximum nine questions from the Ministry of social welfare followed by Health and Excise and Taxation Departments (7 each), Ministries of Auqaf and Information (5 each) and Food Department (4).

Question Hour is a parliamentary tool where by lawmakers conduct treasury’s oversight by submitting questions on the agenda addressed to various government ministries or departments. The question can be on information regarding the performance and policies of the government bodies. Questions are categorized as starred or un-starred based on the requirement of oral and written answers, respectively.

The MQM lawmakers seemed more keen on oversight of their fellows at treasury side and submitted 24 questions followed by PML- F (9), PTI and PPPP (2 each). MQM lawmakers dominated during the question hour as nine of them raised questions addressed to various departments followed by PPPP (2) and one each lawmaker of PML-F and PTI. PML-N lawmakers did not ask any question during the session.

A total of 21 questions were asked by elected members and 16 by women on reserved seats.  The question hour was suspended during the 5th sitting questions while maximum numbers of six questions were taken up during the 6th sitting.

In addition, the legislators also raised 94 supplementary questions.  MQM members asked highest number of 47 supplementary questions followed by PPPP (23), PML-F (16), PTI(6) and PML-N (2).
